About Nate Barnett

Hey there! I’m Nate Barnett – a Realtor®, musician, dog dad, gardener, hot sauce maker, hiker, tennis player, and amateur chef. It’s a pleasure to meet you.

 

I hail from a small town called Rush, NY, where I grew up making music all the time. I played violin, and piano, played in orchestras, and sang in choirs. After leaving home, I studied music composition at Yale, where I also sang in an a cappella group called the Whiffenpoofs (yup – I know the name is silly – but did you know we have a song named after us, and Elvis Presley sang it? Look it up. It’s not his best). After graduating, I moved to New York City, where I taught music, directed choirs, and sang professionally. I loved living there, but the country boy in me needed something a little more serene.

 

Enter Philadelphia. I’d been working as a musician in Philly most summers since 2011, and in 2017 my partner and I made the move. We bought a charming historic rowhome in Fishtown and have loved every minute of living here. We can walk to beautiful restaurants like Suraya and Wm. Mulherin’s Sons, walk to get groceries at Riverwards (a truly world-class produce market and my mecca) or walk down to Penn Treaty Park to soak in the mighty Delaware River. It’s pretty quiet during the week, but on the weekends the streets fill up with visitors who want to get a coffee at La Colombe and stroll around the neighborhood. It’s a wonderful place to live.

 

Here’s what is so great about Philadelphia: countless people have this same story. There is such a wealth of great food and culture, nature and architecture, you don’t have to look far to find the place that feels like home.
